The groups of FC Bayern and Borussia Dortmund for the 2025 Club World Cup have been determined. The draw in Miami, where the opening match will also take place, showed that the Munich team would face Auckland City FC from Australia, CA Boca Juniors from Argentina and Benfica from Portugal. BVB will face Brazilian Fluminense, South Korean Ulsan HD and South African Mamelodi Sundowns FC.
In the 2001 FIFA World Cup final, Champions League winners Munich beat Boca Juniors in Japan 1-0 thanks to an extra-time goal from Samuel Kuffour. “Exciting and cool group. We just played Benfica. Boca Juniors is well known in Europe, they have a large fan base. Playing against Auckland will be exciting. It will be a great tournament,” Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund said on streaming service DAZN.
“A Brazilian team, a Korean team and a South African team, it’s an exotic group. It’s good. They are opponents that you don’t really have on your radar, that’s what makes it interesting,” commented BVB national player Julian Brandt.
There are exciting duels, for example: B. in group B between PSG and Atlético, in group G between Man City and Juventus and in group H between Real Madrid and Red Bull Salzburg. The latter also meet Al-Hilal with Neymar and CF Pachuca.
A total of 32 teams will participate in the new Club World Cup, which will take place in the United States from June 15 to July 13, 2025. The opening match will be played by Inter Miami with superstar Lionel Messi and Al Ahly from Egypt. FIFA promised participating clubs high prizes. The stake alone would raise at least $50 million. In the preliminary round, eight groups are formed with four teams, in which the first and second ranked teams advance to the knockout stage. According to the regulations, there will be no meeting between two clubs from the same country in the group stage.
