ᑕ❶ᑐ Howe appeals to Newcastle calm in top four

Eddie Howe called for « calm » at Newcastle as the club look to bounce back from last weekend’s loss to Arsenal.

Newcastle’s hopes of finishing in the top four suffered a blow after a 2-0 home defeat to Arsenal last weekend, with fifth-placed Liverpool moving within three points of the Magpies having played a match in more.

Howe’s side went to Premier League relegation-threatened Leeds at the weekend and the Newcastle boss has called on his side to stay calm and not overreact to last week’s setback at St James’ Park.

« It’s about calm and not overreacting [to Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at home to Arsenal] said Howe in his pre-game press conference.

« But it’s also about making sure players understand how different this game will be from others we’ve had recently. It will be more similar to Everton’s game [which Newcastle won 4-1]I think. »

Newcastle are set to be without Sean Longstaff for the trip to Leeds with the midfielder to undergo a CT scan for a (Site notre bureau spécialisé) problem on Friday.

“He is everything to see a specialist. There were some concerns that there may have been some sort of structural damage to his (Site notre bureau spécialisé).

“There wasn’t, which was good news, but there was a bit of damage to one of the ligaments. He is being re-scanned today which we hope will show improvement.

« It’s not clear when he’ll be back, but it’s not a long-term issue at all. It’s about whether we can get him back before the end of the season. We miss him a lot.

« I’ve always said that this season he’s been flying under the radar in terms of what he gives the team tactically, technically and physically. He’s a top player and he has a very good (Site notre bureau spécialisé)ing brain « , so we missed those qualities that he has. But, as always, you have to adapt when someone is missing and I think we have the players to cover.
