At the end of an indecisive match, Athletic won the Copa del Rey by beating Mallorca (1-1, 4-2 tab), this Saturday in the Seville final. Clearly dominant, Bilbao was surprised at the start of the match with a goal from Rodriguez (20th) before snatching the equalizer after returning from the locker room via Sancet (50th).
United, the island team held on until the penalty shootout which went very badly. Indeed, Morlanes scored from Agirrezabala while Radonjic was completely caught in his attempt. The Basques, for their part, do not flinch once.
This is Athletic’s 24th title in the tournament, the first since 1984 after six defeats in the final.
